The Filipin@ Youth Resiliency & Empowerment (FYRE) Circle Workshop Series

In line with the vision of a stage production to honor the experiences of young people, The Bakla Show III Production team is proud to announce The Filipin@ Youth Resiliency & Empowerment (FYRE) Circle.

This one-of-a-kind workshop is a five Saturday series that seeks to create a community of empowered Pin@y high school aged youth (ages 14-18)  to engage in critical dialogues to explore personal identity, discuss shared and unique lived experience, and foster senses of self-worth and belonging. This workshop series is a unique opportunity with a special focus on the intersections of Pin@y gender, sexuality, race, and ethnicity. These workshop sessions will be facilitated by The Bakla Show III production team.

For the first time ever, this workshop will also present the opportunity for young folks to create a piece to be translated to stage for The Bakla Show III. The production team, alongside our stage actors and directors, will bring the piece to life come the show’s debut in June. We invite the young people chosen for this workshop series, however, to breathe life into this piece!

In short, this workshop series presents a unique opportunity to:

  • Build community among peers in the San Francisco Bay Area

  • Foster leadership and empowerment towards healthier selves and communities

  • Increase awareness on a breadth of topics like identity, oppression and solidarity

  • Collaborate on a brand new theater project to be produced and promoted professionally in San Francisco

The sessions will be on the following dates, from 11am-2pm at SOMArts Cultural Center in San Francisco (934 Brannan St. between 8th and 9th):

  • April 26

  • May 3

  • May 10

  • May 17

  • May 24

Sessions will include free lunch, reimbursements for two way MUNI travel and materials. LGBTQQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning) youth and their allies are especially encouraged to apply!
